First Methodists to Meet In Quarterly Conference ; The Fourth Quarterly Conference of first Method ut Church. More head, Wednesday, April IS, will be the moat important business meet ing of the church for the year. The meeting will open at 7:90, the devo tional period being conducted at that time by the district superin tendent who will conduct the bus iness session. The officers of the church for the succeeding year, beginning July 1 will be elected. Items to be set at this meeting are the pas tor's salary and the amount as aigned to the seven benevolences for the succeeding year. All offi cers of the church are asked to be at this meeting. At the service on Easter Sunday morning the visiting minister, the Rev. Leon Hall of Durham, preached on the subject, Earning the Right to Eternal Life. The congregation overflowed the sanc tuary. At this service likewise the following persons were received into membership of the church: by baptism and vows, Mrs. Charles Wesley Boggs and L. E. Kelly; by vows, Jefferson Allen Boggs; by letter of transfer from other churches, Mrs. A. C. llodges from Queen Street Methodist Church, Klnilon, Albert White and William White from the Methodist Church, Stuirt, FU., Carolyn White from Stuart, Fia., Mr. and Mri. Zeb V. Butti from Franklin Memorial Church, Morehead City; Charles Rhim Boggs from the Edenton Methodist Church, Edenton, and Mrs. L. E. Kelly from the Meth odist Church, Dover. At 4 p.m. on Enter Sunday the Pastor, Rev. J. F. Herbert, held a christening service. Seven little ones were christened as follows: Larry Steven Chadwick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Donald Chad wick; Brent Herring Butner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Butner; Laura Virginia Lindsey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David M. Lindsey. Amanda Lynn Gould, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leroyal T. Gould; Linda Darlene Willis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delmas F. Willis; James Brinson Webb Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James Brinson Webb; Delmas Floyd Willis Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Delmas Floyd Willis and Carol Lee Whitfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Whitfield. The judge added a IS interpreter's fee to Garcia's fine. also has in charge the placing of the little vases in the church each Sunday, celebrating the birth of the new babies. The Rev. D. M. Sharp, former pastor of First Methodist Church, Morehead City, will occupy the pulpit morning and night Sunday in the First Methodist Church. Mr. Sharp and wis wife and daughter are remmebered by tbe people of hte church because of their fine service here. The Sharps are now retired and live in Durham. Their daughter, who was a child during their pas torate here is now Mrs. Virgil Queen, wife of a Duke University processor and prominent member of the North Carolina Methodist Conference. Mr. Sharp is taking the place Sunday of Rev. Leon Hall who has been supplying the pulpit of First Methodist Church during the ill ness of the pastor, the Rev. J. F. Herbert. Mr. Hall is spending two weeks in hte Veterans' Hospital in Durham. It is understood that the cause of his hospitalization is corrective rather than serious and that he fully expects to be back in the pulpit here shortly. It is expected that Mr. Herbert will likewise be in the pulpit Sunday and wJl take a part in the service. The regular Wednesday morn ing prayer service will be held at 10 o'clock. Mrs. Ben Royal is leading the course in the Book of Isaiah. This group is attracting many women of the churches of hte city. The evening prayer ser vice will not be held as it will give way to the quarterly con ference which will be held at 7:30 in Mrs. Eure's class room. Guest Evangelist 1 The Rev. Rufus Coffey, above, < of Florence, S. C., will be the evangelist at revival services in the Free Will Baptist Church, Davis. The services will begin Sunday and continue through Fri day. They will start each night at 7:30. Mr. Coffey is a graduate of Bob Jones University, Greenville, S.C., and at persent is pastor of First Church, Florence. The church choir will present special music each night. The pastor, the Rev. Henry Van Kluyve, invites the public. District WSCS Will Meet Here The district meeting of the Wo man's Society of Christian Scrvice of the Methodist Church, New Bern district, will be held at Ann Street Church, Beaufort, Tuesday. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. with lunch served at the church. District officers will give annual reports; new officer! will be elected and several talks will be given with emphasis on working with youth. Speakers will be Mrs. Allen Lee of Farmville, Mrs. W. I. McLamb of Garland, and Miss Jean Grif fith of Glendale. All Methodist wo men of the New Bern district are urged to attend. Mrs. I. N. Moore, Beaufort, dis trict president, will preside. Coast Guard Sets Hearing Date Norfolk? The Coast Guard Mer chant Marine Council will hold a public hearing on Monday, April 27, 1959, for the purpose of receiv ing comments, views and data on the proposed changes in the vessel inspection rules and regulations. The hearing will start at 9:30 a.m., in the Department Auditor ium, between 12th and 14th Streets on Constitition Avenue NW, Wash ington, D. C. Copies of the agenda, which con tain the specific changes proposed are available in the Merchant Ma rine Safety Office, Room 209, Post office Building, Norfolk, Va. Written comments on the pro posed regulations containing con structive criticisms, suggestions, or views are welcomed. It is es sential, though, that each comment regarding a section or paragraph of the proposed regulations shall be submitted on a prepared form available at the Merchant Marine Safety Office. Eacfi person who desires to sub mit written comments should sub mit them so that they will be re ceived before April 23, 1959, by the Commandant, US Coast Guard Headquarters, Washington 25, D. C.
